    _____Sports Cards/Memorabilia Blog_____
I've decided to get a blog going, and publish some of my cool stories/pulls here. I won't get to update this everyday, but I'll try to update it a couple times a week. So, go ahead and read thru what I've posted already if you're looking for something to do!

Thought of the day- Is it honestly too hard for people to type correctly? Useing correct grammar, not typing in all caps or all lowercase, using punctuation, and using it correctly, etc. I think the worst one for me is when people type in either all caps or no caps, and don't use punctuation at all. Seriously people? First, everything blends together, and I can't tell one word or line from the next. Very difficult to read. Second, it seems like you're screaming at me. Sorry, but it does. That ties in with my third and final point this time around- Honestly, it makes me not want to trade with you. It's just frusterating trying to decipher codes (that's what it seems like sometimes), and really just makes me want to get the trade over with as fast as possible. Is it really that hard guys? I'm 16, soon to be 17, and I do things the right way. Surely you guys can too. Disclaimer!- I am NOT accusing every single person on SCF of doing this, and I am not calling you guys out for every little thing. It's the people that don't take the time or don't put in the effort that get me. Sorry if you're not one of those people, it's just been bugging me lately and I wanted to vent this post
EXCEPTION- The older members that have eye troubles and can't see as well as they'd like when test is normal sized or lowercase. Nothing you can do about that!
Sorry for the rant, just had to get it out. Hopefully some of the traders will improve, making it better for everyone!

Trader tip of the day- Never pass up a trade with a printing plate- some of the rarest cards there are, and super-cool too, even if it's someone you've never heard of

    5/11/2012
Phew. AP tests are OVER. Hopefully I can get back into trading on a more routine basis again! Big thank-you shout out to all the traders that have been so patient with me during these past few weeks!
5/20/2012 Update- I will still have finals in other classes, so that will take up some time too. But the hardest part of the school year is past, and only 15 days to go!

    4/11/12
Facebook. How would that be for trading? If you have a Facebook account, and want to consider using that as an easier tool for trading, send me an e-mail message about it. We could make a group with SCF traders in it, and post things that we have for trade. This would be better with a smaller group of people, but I really don't know how it would work out. Just an idea!

Decided to get a blaster box of 2011 A&G to open up. I probably don't have enough needs for it to make sense to get another box, but hey, whatever! I decided not to blog this one as I opened it, figuring that nothing too good would come out of it. However, it turned out to be a pretty cool box! Here's the highlights:

-3 reg minis (Including a Ben Revere and a Tulowitzki!)
-2 A&G back minis (Including Peter Gammons- gotta love the icons)
-3 mini inserts (Nothing special, but they're inserts and minis)
-Base cards- A handful of SPs and some for my Twins set- usually boxes tend to not give me Twins
-Brent Morel auto- Not a huge name, but I've always liked the A&G autos, plus the box wasn't guaranteed to even have a hit in it at all
-Decipher card from the Ginter Code- I know this is irrevelent now, and probably not worth anything, but I've always kinda wanted one for some reason. They are case hits too! I pulled it from a box with 8 packs! Nice!

I haven't yet looked to see how many cards I can actually use from the box yet, but I'll be happy with it no matter what happens! Was a good box!

Just got a package in from CheckOutMyCards in today. Very nice site by the way, go check it out (ahh, see what I did there? :) ) next time you are buying cards, it's really nice- picked up these 10 pretty nice cards for only around $40.00. Not a whole lot of a point of this blog post, just wanted to post something- why not some nice cards I just got in? Here's what I got!
3 different 2011 Diamond Anniversarys for my Twins team set
2 different Cognacs for my Twins team set, including a Blyleven SP!
Couple of Morneau inserts- 2010 206 Polar Bear Mini and a '06 Bowman Chrome Refractor
Morneau Quad jersey card from the World Baseball Classic, where he played with Canada

Now, the 2 best ones (going to give these the nod over the Quad Morneau because of the players [higher-end], plus I've never gotten anything from these sets before):

    2011 Topps Triple Threads Relics:
Josh Hamilton "AL MVP '10" bat #ed/27
Troy Tulowitzki "2010 NL All-Star" jersey (pinstripe included) #ed/36

Pretty excited about this set of cards! Like I said, go take a look at CheckOutMyCards (www.checkoutmycards.com) next time you have a few bucks to spend towards cards. There's some great deals out there!

It's been awhile! Seems like a good time for another box break! Today I have a blacster box (8 packs) of 2012 Topps Heritage. I'm interested to test it out. Never worked on a Heritage set before any more than my Twins team sets. We'll see how this one goes!

Pack 1: 8 base (5 guys I've never heard of, then a Scherzer, Francoeur, and a 2012 Rookie Stars group of 4, including my first Twin Kyle Waldrop!), and a Target Red parallel of Starlin Castro. Not a bad pack, but hopefully we can do better

Pack 2: 8 base again (T Hanson, Ogando, Wells, Roberts, R Hernandez, Choo, Aybar, McCarthy), and a SP of Edwin Encarnacion. Alright pack again, fairly good players

Pack 3: 8 base (Byrd, Holliday, AL HR Leaders, Motte, Either, Beltre, and 2 managers- Yost of the Royals, Showalter of the Orioles), and a New-Age Performers insert of Jose Bautista. I'd place this pack around the same as the last one. Fairly good names, but still nothing to get real excited about. I do have to stay that I do like the cards this year. Still not sure if I like it enough to build the set, but we'll see!

Pack 4: 8 base ("Power Plus" Jay Bruce, Uggla, Reyes, Hafner, Dusty Baker (cool!), 2 nobodys, and a nobody RC), plus a Then and Now insert of Marichal and Verlander. Again, fairly good names, but still nothing great! Dusty was a nice pull tho!

Pack 5: Bad pack. 9 base cards (A Gonzalez, Loney, Pomeranz RC, Ackley, Reddick, A Sanchez, Mets TC, Nova, Gallardo. Nothing here to even me happy about. Got to have those packs every now and then though

Pack 6: Ehh. 8 base (Betemit, Freese (like it), DeFratus RC, Bloomquist, Iannetta, Reynolds, 2 nobodys, and a lowly checklist), then a News Flashbacks card featuring Penn Station. Freese is nice, but nothing else

Pack 7: 8 base (Perez, NL ERA Leaders, Kershaw, Dominguez RC, Butler, Pence, 2 more nobodys), then a Jhoulys Chacin SP. Man. Not having good luck with this box! Hopefully the last pack can salvage something good for me

Last and hopefully not least, Pack 8: Nope. Not going to make my night. 8 more base (3 nobodys including a RC, Leyland manager card, AL Batting Leaders, Rolen, Granderson, Gio Gonzalez) and a mini stickers insert of Beltre. Not the worst pack. Definetly nothing great though

Final thoughts: Well, I certainly won't be buying any more Heritage this year. Don't think I'll build the entire set either. Just the Twins. Overall boring box. No guaranteed GU/auto, and didn't get one from the box. Not excited about this at all. Overall, the set gets a 5 of 10 stars, the box gets a 2. Yes, I have never liked the Heritage stuff, but I still don't see anything that will get me to enjoy it in the future. If you've been a fan of Heritage in the past, you'll probably like this year's set too. But for me, nothing worth buying. Hopefully I can get my hands on another box over spring break with something better in it

    3/4/12
Going to use this blog post as a place to declare my new project- Buling a 1979 Topps set. When I complete this, I'll move back a year and work on the 1978 set. When that one's done, I'll try the '77 set. I wonder how far back I'll be able to go!

    2/15/12
About to enter in my first code of the 2012 Topps Golen Giveaway program, and I thought I'd make a blog post along with it. Here we go! Type type type enter...Boring. Got a digital coin of Ryan Howard. Not redeemable for anything, need to get more coins to redeem them for something better. Oh well! Can't expect much with only 1 code! Hopefully I'll get some nice stuff out of it in the future!

Today I'm going to blog my first box break! I have a blaster box of the hot-off-the-press 2012 Topps Series 1- 10 regular packs (8 cards each inside), plus 1 pack holding 1 patch card. Without further adu, here we go!

Pack 1: 6 base cards (Axford, Freeman, Betances RC, Aybar, DeFratus RC, Rivera Saves Leader), and 2 inserts- Rivera mini, Granderson/Maris Timeless Talents. Overall, not a bad first pack, even if 4 of the 8 cards were Yanks. Double inserts, and 2 RCs. Hard to not be happy with that!

Pack 2: 6 base (Callaspo, Escobar, Greinke, Pacheo RC, Sizemore, Betancourt), and 2 inserts- Ripken Jr. Gold Standard, Allen Craig gold parallel of some sort- not numbered/2012. Will have to look up what it is. Looks cool though! Overall, another pretty good pack! Some fairly common players, plus a Ripken insert. The gold parallel looks cool as well

Pack 3: 6 more base (Roberts, Adams, Saltalamacchia, Hosmer, NL Wins Leaders, Kimbrel), 2 inserts- Pettitte Golden Moments, Carlton Fisk Classic Walk-Offs. Overall, more of an "eh" pack for me. The Fisk is kinda cool, but nothing else really hits me. BUT, we're not even halfway done yet, so that's ok!

Pack 4: 6 base (Mesoraco RC, Cairo, Duda, Fowler, Bay, Bastardo), 2 inserts- Ty Cobb Golden Greats, Rizzo Gold Futures. This pack isn't very hot, but I do like the Fowler and Bay, and the Bastardo card made me laugh

Pack 5: 7 base (Davis, Pence, Ellsbury, Romine RC, Michael Young, Eric Young, Boesch), 1 insert- Tulowitzki mini. First pack with only 1 insert in it, but it's still a pretty good pack. Tulo mini is nice, and the Pence, Ellsbury, Michael Young cards are nice. First time I've ever opened a pack that had 2 different players with the same name in it, let alone consectutive cards!

Pack 6: 6 base again (Chatwood, Jay, Loney, Cardinals Game 7, Rivera, Sale), 2 inserts- Another of those gold parallels, Tommy Hanson this time, and then a Golden Giveaway redemption card. There are definite pluses, but also a minus. Pluses: John Jay, gold parallel, and redemption card. Excited to see what I get out of it! Never did any of the Giveaways from the 2011 set. Minus- Yet ANOTHER Rivera card (4 of them now?)

Pack 7: 6 base (Carignan RC, Isringhausen, Venable, AL HR Leaders, NL Wins Leaders, Wright), 2 inserts- Dawson/Justin Upton timeless Talents, Ichiro Golden Moments. Another "eh" pack. First dup with the NL Wins Leaders card, but the Wright is alright. Inserts aren't bad either

Pack 8: 6 more base (Bard, Chambers RC, Thome (first Twin! Even if he isn't a Twin anymore...), Jackson, Drew, Gorzelanny), 2 inserts- Chipper Jones Gold Standard, Lou Gehrig Golden Greats. Good pack- the one with the first Twin in it is always a good thing, especially Thome- one of the nicest ballplayers ever

Pack 9: Red border parallel pack! 6 Red parallels (Jennings, Reddick, AL Wins Leaders, Drew, Jackson, Cahill), 2 inserts- Joe MiMaggio Golden Greats (ANOTHER Yankee???), Nolan Ryan Gold Standard. Pretty cool pack. The Reds are nice, even if I didn't get any real stars or guys I collect

Pack 10: Red border pack #2: 7 Red Borders (AL HR Leaders, Cardinals Game 7, Bard, Venable, Rosario RC, Ryan, Kimbrel), 1 insert- Another gold parallel, Jose Bautista this time. Good pack. Still no huge names, but the Bautists is nice, and I still like the Reds!

Patch pack! What's it going to be? Looking at the box, it seems like it'll be a retired player patch. Anywhere from Mantle, Ryan, Seaver, Gibson, Bench, etc. Of course, it'll probably be worth 10 bucks tops, but as long as it looks cool, it doesn't matter to me! Time to rip....Mike Schmidt Historical Stitches. Looks pretty nice! Patch is a cream-white background with "Schmidt" in black cursive letters diagonally across. I'll insert a pic here in the next few days. Very nice patch though!

Overall opinions- The design seems kind of bland to me. It's nice, but it's pretty similar to the 2011 and 2010 Topps sets. That element disppears somewhat with the Red and Gold parallels. The golds are very nice! Reds aren't as good, but they're still pretty cool. Price for the blaster box is pretty good! Cost me $20.00, got me somewhere around 80 cards? Lost of parallels in there, some nice looking inserts, pus the very nice patch. Not a very god box for me Twins-wise. Only 1 Twin, and it was a normal base. Too many Yankees! (for my preference at least). All in all, 2012 Topps isn't my favorite set, but the Twins cards will definetly be going on my wantlist. I might trade the rest of the base away, maybe try to build a Red and/or Gold parallel set. I'm for sure planning on trying to get some more of those patches! Very nice. Final score on the set- 7.5 to 8 out of 10. Thanks for reading my break!

Yesterday, I went to Twinsfest. My big goal for this year was to get my Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau jerseys signed. I thought I would be lucky if I even got just one of them, because they changed the rules for the Mauer and Morneau auto lines this year. Now, they hand out wristbands for each line at the door, 4 colors of each. Basically a random draw on which color you get. Later, they annouce a color, and everyone with that colored wristband gets to go thru the line. System kinda sucks if your color isn't called, but if it is, it works great! I went with my dad and sister, and we were lucky enough to all get different colored wristbands for bothMauer and Morneau. We went inside, and found out that green and been selected for the first Morneau line of the weekend- That was my color! I went thru the line, talked to Morneau for a little bit, and got his autograph in the 33 on the back of the jersey. Very cool. I met up with my sister and dad again (This one Twins worker wouldn't let my sister come with me just to SEE Morneau, not even get an auto or anything, just come with me and see him. Really? My sister's like 12. Come on...) and we walked around for a bit on the Metrodome field. Then, we heard that blue was the wristband for Mauer's auto line. I look to my wrist, and wow! I had the blue too! I felt sorry for my sister though, how she wouldn't even be able to see either of the 2 family favorites in my home. I felt bad as I left to go grab my place in line, but nothing you can do about it, right? Anyways, after standing for 10 min or so, some new people entered the line, and I overheard them talking to some people ahead of me in line. It seemed that they were handing out extra blue wristbands for the same Mauer autograph session! Excited, I called my dad and told him to go grab a wristband and a picture quick for my sister. And sure enough, 15 min later they took their place in line and my sister got to meet her favorite player as well. I got my Mauer jersey signed inside the number 7 on the back, and she got a very nice-looking picture signed. For my dad, just seeing the players was enough. Sure, he went thru lines with my sister and met the players, but he said he doesn't need any autographs. We spent the rest of the day getting a few more autographs. A hour or so after we all had gone thru Mauer's auto line, we split up with my dad and sister going to get Carl Pavano and Danny Valencia to sign a picture each for my sis, and I headed off to a line with some ex-Twins and coaches- 2 of the 3 original "Soul Patrol" with Shannon Stewart and Jacque Jones, and then 2 coaches: 1st base coach Jerry White, and hitting coach Joe Vavra. My sister had 2 more pictures she wanted signed by Stewart and Jones, so I got them to sign those, and gave a baseball each to White and Vavra to sign. After that, we all met up again. We then walked around the dealer tables for the rest of the night. There were some VERY cool stuff! I saw a Triple Treads book auto and 6 relics from Strasburg and a Marlins rookie, Mickey Mantle autographed pictures, and my personal favorite, 3 foot tall bobbleheads of some players like Pujols, Johan Santana, etc. Probably not worth a ton, but hey- they were pretty cool. We were done to the last 5 min of the night, when I found a great deal- This one dealder had a box of GUs/autos/low #ed cards he was selling, and he was selling them 3 for $10! Very nice! I found a SP Authentic Corey Koskie auto, a Sweet Spot Mauer GU, and a Bowman Chrome Refractor of Michael Cuddyer- RC! Very nice set of 3! I quickly exchanged the 3 for 10 bucks, and met up with my dad and sister again. I laughed when I found they had bought a piece of the roof of the Dome when it had collapsed. We had joked about buying a piece of it before, and we did know that they actually sold them, I just didn't think we would ever actually buy it! Pretty cool, have to say. That concluded day 1 of Twinsfest 2012 for us. Going out of it with Mauer and Morneau signed jerseys, a bunch of player autos for my sis, White and Vavra autoed balls, and a few cool cards, I think it is very safe to say that this has been one of the best days of Twinsfest I've ever been to
