* FBI: 70% of Autographs Sold On-Line Are Fake
So, there's this news video floating around about how a
reporter was able to dupe a major autograph authentication company by
switching a real auto with a fake one at a live autograph signing. This
story really has some collectors upset, as it should. However, we thought that
the folks over on the Beckett behind the scenes blog brought up some
reasonable explanations for this serious goof.
* Here's a good story
about a baseball card shop owner who is not only doing well with one
shop, but has recently opened a second. His success is due in part to his
ability to realize he needed to diversify and evolve in order to keep the doors
open. We know of several former shop owners who would never do what this
guy has done. Here's a relevant quote from the article: "Baseball cards are
what got him into it in the first place, but it's been the steady additions
along the way that have helped keep him in business."

Beckett is staying tight-lipped about the "fun changes" they have in the
works for their web site. They have disclosed on their
beckett behind the scenes blog that it will be in March 2008. They also
are making some changes to their magazines as well. It's a big deal to change
your web site and takes a lot of guts to do it. Speaking from experience, when
you change your web site you can bet some people will absolutely hate whatever
change that they make (some of us just don't take kindly to changes). On the
other hand, we're excited that there are key sites out there like Beckett who
are not afraid to push the envelope and help grow the Internet side of the hobby
even more.

We're excited about Beckett right now. They've been giving us little teases
here and there about their web site and how it's going to be changing into a
more
web 2.0 type of site. This is clearly reflected in their new
Beckett behind the
scenes blog (which we love)
Good job Beckett! You're inspiring us to possibly finally bite-the-bullet
and get our own blog rolling. We look forward to those big changes on your site!

format.
