Mickey Mantle rookie card sells for $160, 000! The seller of the cards was an 89 year old collector (he started collecting in 1935). By the end of the day his baseball cards brought in $1.6 million.

A "principle competitor" of The Topps Company made an offer to purchase the sports card company, the offer was rejected. Some are speculating that it was Upper Deck that made the offer.

High-end baseball card collectors rejoice, Upper Deck Premier just hit the shops yesterday and so far it's looking like a winner. Here are some of the juicy details about this product; to start off with, there are plenty of game used patch cards. It gets even better. Dice-K's first Upper Deck rookie makes it's debut numbered out of 199, 99, 75, 49 or 1! Sandy Koufax returns with autos. Then there are the cards with 6 and 8 autos. Wow! Here's an auction to watch. A 2006 Upper Deck Epic bat barrel card of Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, Mel Ott, and Eddie Mathews numbered 1/1! The buy it now price listed is $100,000.

* Barry Bonds is back with the Topps Company for 2007
. As reported on Beckett, this one year contract gives Topps the exclusive rights within the MLB trading card category for autographed baseball cards, game-used memorabilia cards and Bonds' image use on packaging and advertising.

What a collection! At 89 years old he's been collecting baseball cards year round since 1933. Experts say the owner, Lionel Carter,  has put together one of the finest baseball card collections ever. The value? 1-2 million. The collection is up for auction via Maestro Auctions April 9th through 27th, 2007.

* Hideki Okajima Rookie Card
is revealed as the card #1 in the 2007 Topps Finest Baseball Rookie Card Redemption program.

* Daisuke Matsuzaka's first true rookie card
has appeared in 2007 Topps Milestones. There are a few different versions of the rookie that we've seen so far from this set on ebay. Card numbers are 170, 171, 172. Looks like they're either numbered out of /150 or a more limited /29. One of the card numbered out of 29 has already sold for $1,000.

Being a pro ball player, he offers a really unique perspective to baseball card collecting.
